Music School
Our music program offers a safe and friendly environment to anyone aged 8 or older with the desire to play an orchestral instrument typically used in classical music. We supply everything you'll need to learn and play at no charge, including formal musical instruction, a musical instrument of your choice, all sheet music, and band uniforms.
All students begin by learning the fundamentals of music (e.g. identifying notes, note names, and rhythm types). Students will be given a fingering chart for their specific instrument to learn to identify the fingerings for specific notes on the music staff. Upon learning to consistently identify notes and fingerings properly, students will be taught to clap various musical rhythms. A musical instrument will be loaned to the student once the instructor is satisfied of the students' progress.
Instructors will work with students, both one-on-one and in group settings, to build technique and produce appropriate sounds from the instruments. Because there is no substitute for experience, as students progress, they will begin to sit-in on band rehearsals to understand how rehearsals are run, ask questions, and get tips from band musicians. Students are given a binder with band music to practice and become more comfortable with rehearsals. Once comfortable and able to play the pieces of music, the students will become full-time band musicians.
Classes are held at the band house every Wednesday from 5:00pm - 6:00pm.
Instructors: Niverio Carvalho and Adam Genest
